The SGS Accessibility Grant supports significant educational expenses that are not normally covered by the student, the graduate unit, provincial, or federal agencies. This grant is intended to assist with relatively short-term needs that: are required in order for a student to complete a graduate program; and arise from the specific nature of the graduate program. In order to apply, students must: be currently registered as a part-time or full-time graduate student; be registered with U of T Accessibility Services; and consult their Accessibility Counsellor before submitting the application. Students who believe they may be eligible are encouraged to review all of the information on the SGS Accessibility Grant web page.

The SGS Emergency Loan alleviates temporary cash flow problems for students who are expecting the release of funds in the near future (i.e., 30 to 120 days) from employment, a major award instalment, OSAP (Ontario Students’ Assistance Program), teaching assistantship, or research assistantship payment, etc. Students must be registered in the academic session for which the funding is provided and be able to show documentation verifying the expected release of funds and the ability for repayment.

SGS Fellowships and Bursaries for Black and/or Indigenous Students

This fellowship is for full-time graduate students who: identify as a Black and/or Indigenous person; are either a currently registered student in a U of T graduate degree program or have accepted an offer of admission to a full-time U of T graduate degree program; and demonstrate one or both of the following: academic merit and financial need. SGS Inclusive Excellence Admissions Scholarships for Masters Students - MED

To be awarded first-year master’s students to PhD-stream programs (i.e. MA, MSc, MSW, MEd, MPH, and other research and professional programs that are commonly a stepping-stone to a University of Toronto PhD program) who self-identify as a Black and/or Indigenous to North America. These scholarships are to be additive by nature (create new funding packages) and aim to increase graduate school opportunities for Black and/or Indigenous applicants who have significant accomplishments that may not be included in conventional graduate admission criteria but who can be admitted through non-standard admission and have great potential to succeed, or are highly admissible, but admission is limited due to lack of funding availability (Departmental, Faculty or PI) in a funded program, or would not accept an offer of admission due to lack of resources to pay for an unfunded program

Sona Noran Pancha Graduate Award in Leukemia Research

To be awarded to a graduate student enrolled in a doctoral stream Master’s or PhD program in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine with preference given to students whose research is focused on understanding the molecular events leading to the initiation and propagation of leukemic cells and the factors triggering those events. Selection will be based on excellence and outstanding achievement in this area of Leukemia research.

To be awarded to research-based MSc and PhD domestic graduate students who have been offered admission by one of the 10 graduate Departments in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Ranked in the top 1% of applicants; likely to have multiple graduate offers

2. Demonstrated academic excellence:

• Undergraduates applying to Masters Program and Direct Entry PhD, must have GPA ≥ 3.6 across all 3rd and 4th year undergraduate courses

• Graduate students applying to PhD must have GPA ≥ 4.0 across all graduate courses

Teresina Florio Graduate Scholarship in Cancer Research

To be awarded to graduate students enrolled in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine working on translational aspects and/or clinical applicable strategies of cancer biology with an interest in the development of alternative and innovative strategies of cancer treatment that emphasize current personalized approaches (e.g. stem cell or nanotechnologies).

Student must be in good academic standing and registered full time in a doctoral stream (MSc or PhD) graduate program.

Note: Student recipient is expected to provide a brief written report at the end of the term of the scholarship concerning his/her progress.
