Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST Awards) 

Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology provide up to $15,000 per year. Although these are external awards, initial nominations are made by Department or Faculty Review Committees and forwarded to the School of Graduate Studies. Eligibility is limited to students in years 1 and 2 of their MSC or years 1 to 5 of their PhD.  Professional Masters students and clinician-scientist trainees are not eligible to apply.  It is important to check with your Graduate Unit regarding deadline dates and eligibility guidelines for the various QEII-GSST awards. The Following is a list of OGSST awards available to MSc & PhD students in the Faculty of Medicine:

(1)   QEII-GSST Awards through Office of the Vice Dean, GLSE:

Queen Elizabeth II /Dr. Dina Gordon Malkin Scholarship in Science and Technology - Graduate students studying Haematology and Oncology whose supervisors are members of the Faculty of Medicine

Queen Elizabeth II /Edward Dunlop Foundation Scholarships in Science and Technology - Graduate students supervised by faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine who are members of the Arthritis Centre for Excellence at the University of Toronto

Queen Elizabeth II /Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order:  1. Graduate students supervised by faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine who are members of the Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre for Excellence at the University of Toronto.  2.  Graduate students supervised by faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine conducting cardiovascular/stroke research.  3.  Graduate students supervised by faculty members at the University of Toronto conducting cardiovascular/stroke research.

Queen Elizabeth II /Grace Lumsden/Margaret Nicholds Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order: 1. Graduate students supervised by members of the Department of Medicine involved in Parkinson’s Disease research 2. Students working in the area of neurodegenerative disease will be given next preference.  3.  Students working in the area of neuroscience research will be given next preference.

Queen Elizabeth II /Paul and Adelle Deacon Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order:   1. Graduate students supervised by members of the Department of Medicine involved in Parkinson’s Disease research.  2.  Students working in the area of neurodegenerative disease will be given next preference.  3.  Students working in the area of neuroscience research will be given next preference.

Queen Elizabeth II /H. David Archibald Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology - Graduate students enrolled in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Psychoactive Substances collaborative specialization.

Queen Elizabeth II /Study in Pain Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order:  1. Graduate student in the Faculty of Medicine who is studying in the area of pain and working with a member of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain.  2.  Second preference would be given to a graduate student in the University of Toronto who is studying in the area of pain and working with a member of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain.

Queen Elizabeth II /David E. Hastings Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order: 1. Graduate students supervised by faculty members of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital. 2. Graduate students in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine supervised by faculty members of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Queen Elizabeth II /Medicine/Patty Rigby and John Wedge Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology – The award should alternate yearly between the Department of Occupational Therapy and the Department of Surgery.  During the years that the Department of Surgery holds the award, first preference will be given to students in the surgical-scientist trainee program.  Secondary preference will be given to graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine under the supervision of faculty members of the Department of Surgery.  In 2021-22, the award will be to a student pursuing a career in Surgery.

(2)   QEII-GSST Awards Through Graduate Departments or Programs- Applications are submitted directly to the Graduate Unit.  Check internal deadlines.

Queen Elizabeth II /Canadian Arthritis Network Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology - Graduate students registered in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology involved in the area of Arthritis Research

Queen Elizabeth II /Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences Centre Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology - Graduate Students registered in the Department of Medical Biophysics

Department of Physiology

Queen Elizabeth II /Genesis Research Foundation/Physiology Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology - Preference will be given in the following order:  1.  Graduate students registered in the Department of Physiology who are supervised by faculty members with appointments in both the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Physiology. 2.  Graduate students enrolled in the Department of Physiology engaged in research in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Queen Elizabeth II /Physiology/Medicine Graduate Scholarships in Science Technology - Preference will be given in the following order:  1. Graduate students registered in the Department of Physiology whose supervisor holds a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine and a cross-appointment in the Department of Physiology.  2.  Graduate students whose supervisor holds a primary appointment in the Department of Physiology and a cross-appointment in the Department of Medicine.
