Biography

Oyindamola Obigbesan

My name is Oyinda and I am a third-year Biomedical Sciences student at the University of Calgary, in Alberta. I am passionate about translational research and am interested in promoting equitable women’s health outcomes for members of marginalized groups.

I have been a member of Dr. Karen Benzies’ lab (Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary) since high school, working on several projects which aim to improve infant outcomes in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through family-centered care. I have presented at student, national, and international conferences, received awards and published my work in peer-reviewed academic journals. Through my coursework, I have explored other approaches to research, including molecular biology and bioinformatics techniques.

While working as a research assistant, I am involved with the Health Sciences Students’ Association (HSSA) and the Women in Sciences and Engineering (WISE) club at the University of Calgary. Outside of academics, I love long-distance running outdoors, volunteering, and fibre arts such as knitting and crocheting.
