Shayne GreenbergMSc Candidate
Country of Origin: Thornhill, Ontario, Canada
Pre-MSc Education: Bachelor of Medical Science
Honours Specialization in Physiology
University of Western Ontario

Recent Research Experience:
My past research experience was a summer studentship and 4th-year undergraduate thesis at the University of Western Ontario. My work focused on the cellular physiology of the osteoclast, a specialized cell central to the bone remodeling process. I studied the role of the PI 3-kinase pathway in osteoclast morphology and apoptosis.

Current Research:
Located within the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, our lab focuses on the development and treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We have identified overexpression of inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase, type II (INPP4B) as a biomarker for aggressive disease in AML patients. My project specifically studies the association of increased INPP4B expression and its role in chemotherapy resistance in AML.

There is access to a variety of resources for graduate students to achieve their academic goals.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals:
I plan to pursue a career in medicine, where I can translate the knowledge I’ve acquired as a graduate student to patient-based, primary care setting.
