Christie Welch - Rehabilitation Sciences Institute

Christie WelchPhD Candidate
Country of Origin: Sarnia, Ontario Canada
Pre-MSc/PhD Education: BASc, Child Studies, BSc Occupational Therapy

Current research:
For my master’s thesis, I have been looking at autobiographies written by young people with autism in order to better understand the lived experience of autism and to explore how client perspectives on autism can better inform occupational therapy practice. I recently transferred from the MSc program to PhD and will be extending this research to explore perspectives with youth who have autism as well as occupational therapists who work in this area.

Why Faculty of Medicine?
I am passionate about occupational therapy, occupational science and rehabilitation science; so, the Institute of Rehabilitation Science within the faculty of Medicine is the perfect place for me. I was also excited for the chance to work with the faculty in this department as they are of such outstanding calibre.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals.
In the future, I would like to continue research in the field of autism as well as teach in post secondary education and maintain clinical practice.
