Specific Eligibility of this Award: This annual award was created in the memory of Dr. Joe Connolly primarily through generous donations from the Connolly family. The award will be made to a senior student currently registered in the PhD programme (3rd year or beyond) at the University of Toronto who demonstrates EXCELLENCE IN CELL BIOLOGY RESEARCH and IS INVOLVED AND INTERESTED IN A WIDE VARIETY OF EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. To be awarded to incoming graduate students in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to students undertaking research in microbiology. If the Eric Hani Selection Committee feels there is no suitable candidate in a given year, second and third year students conducting microbiology research will be assessed. The Eric Hani Fellowship recipient may also be considered for the Eric Hani Travelling Award.

To be awarded to aboriginal students enrolled in graduate programs at the masters or doctoral level, and second-entry professional programs (law, medicine, education , etc.) All aboriginal students in these programs are eligible to apply, full-time and part-time, with preference given to those students who demonstrate financial need.

To be awarded to graduate students enrolled in the Master’s or PhD program in the Faculty of Medicine doing research in a lab located in the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research. Selection will be based on research excellence. Application requirements: •Complete Application Form •CV (maximum 2 pages) detailing:1- Research Project and Interests (100 – 250 words);2- Publications; 3- Presentations; 4- Awards; 5- Research Experience •Letter of recommendation from current faculty supervisor Award Conditions: • Award holder must be registered in the eligible graduate program for at least 14 weeks of any term during which they hold the award. Return of funds will be required if an awardee is registered for less than, or withdraws from the eligible program prior to the minimum 14 week period. • Support is for one academic year and non-renewable. However, new applications can be submitted to subsequent competitions.
