Tara Stier, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy

Tara StierStudent’s Name: Tara Stier
Country of Origin: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Pre-MSc/PhD Education: Western University, Honours Bsc Kinesiology
Recent Research Experience: My most recent research experience involves critically appraising research articles. I have become an expert in using using critical appraising tools such as PRISMA, SIGN, STROBE and SCRIBE. This greatly enhances my skills as a researcher and is an important skill to acquire for literature reviews.

Current Research: I will be starting a research project in the upcoming months regarding occupation, mental health, and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). With a keen interest in neuroanatomy, I am interested in determining the effects that specific occupational interventions have on individuals' mental health following a TBI.

Why Faculty of Medicine?: I chose the Faculty of Medicine for its exceptional research reputation. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto are world leaders in research and it provides OTs with the best opportunity to enhance our treatment methods by using evidence based practice.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals: I plan to be a leader in the field of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy by conducting frequent research studies to enhance our clinical practice. I hope to begin my work in the areas of mental health or neuro-rehabilitation.
