Summer Internship Program (SIP)
The aim of the SIP is to attract and support students at Canada’s post-secondary institutions to contribute to, and experience from, working on projects within any division of CBS. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been supported by the program. Support is offered directly to the student to a maximum of $7,500 for up to 4 months. Applicants who will work with blood or blood products must provide evidence of a Hepatitis B vaccination before the award commences.

Canadian Liver Foundation Research Grant Program
The Canadian Liver Foundation Summer Studentship Program provides an opportunity for a limited number of well-motivated students with records of strong academic performance to participate in liver-related research. grants provide funding of $4,000 to undergraduate students to allow them to pursue liver-related research projects under the guidance of leading liver researchers.

Keenan Research Centre Keenan Research Centre - St. Michael's Hospital
Keenan Research Summer Student Program
This program provides opportunities for undergraduate and medical students to conduct research in a laboratory and/or clinical setting at St. Michael’s under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (Scientist and/or MD).
Students must agree to participate in the program on a full-time basis and not terminate their engagement prior to the stipulated end date. Summer students work 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 7.5/hrs per day). The summer student’s project must take place at St. Michael’s, unless the principal investigator’s office/lab is located off-site. Students hired as employees of the hospital and paid hourly wage that falls on a pay scale starting at $14. Students registered as research volunteers who wish to gain experience in a research setting (Please note: volunteer students will not be paid stipends/honorariums at any time and will solely act as volunteers).
Students must align themselves with a PI and set up appointments to speak to them personally. Find a Principal Investigator at St. Michael’s.

Parkinson's Disease Foundation
PDF’s Summer Fellowship Program is used to support students – from advanced undergraduates to graduate and medical students – in their pursuit of Parkinson's-related summer research projects. Fellows work under the close supervision of a sponsor who is an expert in the Parkinson's community and oversees the project. Typically, summer fellowships are offered for 10 weeks of laboratory work with an award of $4,000. Undergraduate students and medical students are eligible for summer fellowships. Graduate students may apply if they can demonstrate a financial need, such as lack of summer funding. Each applicant must identify a mentor, with whom he or she will conduct the proposed project. Please note that this year, all applications must be submitted online through the PDF website at grants.pdf.org; no paper copies will be accepted.

Each summer, Grand Challenges Canada welcomes passionate and driven students from a variety of disciplines to work as part of our team through our Summer Student Program. Grand Challenges Canada’s Summer Students will work in and across the following areas, based on their interests and experience: Operations and Finance; Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn & Child Health; Every Woman Every Child (EWEC) Innovation Marketplace.
To be eligible for a summer studentship, students must be currently enrolled in, or graduated within the last year from, a post-secondary institution at the time of submitting an application. International students are eligible to apply as long as they meet the aforementioned criteria and are authorized to work in Canada.

Cardiovascular Health in Ambulatory Health Research Team (CANHEART)
CANHEART Summer Studentship Award
CANHEART strives to a) improve the community-based care provided to patients with cardiovascular risk factors and/or chronic conditions, and b) stimulate health system changes and quality improvement activities, resulting in better patient outcomes. This studentship is open to health sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health students, medical students and students enrolled in course-based (i.e. non-research-based) graduate programs. All successful students will be expected to present their research protocol and end of project results in a summer student seminar.

NFS394Y1 Research Course in Nutritional Science
Research experience under the supervision of a Departmental staff member. The course entails designing and carrying out a small research project and the preparation and presentation of both a research proposal and a final report. Note that the research project NFS394Y1 requires the prior consent of a staff member who will supervise the project and departmental approval before enrolment. The student is responsible for locating a supervisor and must consult with the course instructor before the beginning of the term.

RHSE Undergraduate Summer Research Project Studentship
Graduate and Life Sciences Education, Temerty Faculty of Medicine will award 8 annual summer research project studentships per summer to support third or fourth year specialist and/or major students in our Basic Science departments and in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Non-University of Toronto students should have equivalent qualifications. This is to provide mentored research opportunities for undergraduate students who undertake in depth study in one of our life sciences programs of study. Each department receives one studentship per summer to be awarded to a student the department selects based on excellent academic merit and interest in future graduate training. Support from GLSE is set at $2,500 per student and the student must be guaranteed at least an additional $2,500 in compensation from other sources managed by sponsoring department
Award Duration:
This is a 12 full week summer program, normally between May 1 and August 31.
Eligibility:
- Students must have successfully completed a term in a full-time undergraduate program directly prior to the award period.
- University of Toronto students must be enrolled in a third or fourth year major and/or specialist in the Faculty of Medicine Basic Science departments and Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology.
- University of Toronto and non-University of Toronto students may be considered, including international students (with valid student visa for the full summer work term).
- Student must have obtained a cumulative cGPA of 3.0 or higher
- Students may be considered by only one application to this program.
- Supervisors can be named as primary supervisor for only one application through one unit to this Program.
- Be engaged on a full-time basis in research activities under the direction of an eligible supervisor
- Interest in future graduate training
- Has not started a program of graduate studies
In addition to these conditions, the submissions should have the following attributes
- A designated faculty member appointed as coordinator of the summer program for each department or group.
- A continuity of supervision for each student for the duration of the summer program, with supervisors involved in the program being members or associate members of the School of Graduate Studies.
- An academic structure with clear accountability at the end of the summer program, e.g. required seminar presentations of students' own work.
Please Note: It is the responsibility of Faculty Supervisor/Department Chair/Division to communicate all award/payment/reporting details to the student.

NATURAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH COUNCIL OF CANADA
Experience Awards (previously Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)
Experience Awards are available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents registered as full-time students in eligible undergraduate programs in the natural sciences or engineering at the time of application. When the award is held, the student must have completed all the course requirements of at least the first year of university study (or two academic terms) of your bachelor's degree, and must not have started a program of graduate studies. Students must have obtained a cumulative average of at least second class (B or B-) over the previous years of study. Students are eligible if they are registered in a bachelor’s degree program leading to an honours degree or a degree with a major. Candidates for undergraduate professional degrees in the health sciences (eg MD, DDS, BScN) are not eligible to hold these awards.
The awards have a maximum value (from NSERC) of $4,500 for a full 16-week period. Organizations are required to supplement each award by at least 25%. Supplements to the monthly value and fringe benefits, if applicable, will be the responsibility of the organization. These awards may not be held outside Canada. For further information, see the Guidelines for Organizations Participating in NSERC Industrial Training Programs. Students may apply for awards at one or more of the approved companies of their choice. NSERC will support up to 15 students per eligible organization, per location, per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
Deadline for applications; NSERC should receive applications from the organization at least FOUR weeks before the scheduled start date of the work term.
