Why Faculty of Medicine:
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is one of North America’s most renowned faculties with unparalleled opportunities. I chose this faculty because I will be able to reach my goal of becoming a health care professional through learning from leading experts in their fields and gaining experience from the several, diverse clinical placement opportunities that the faculty offers.

Why this Department:
I chose Speech-Language Pathology because this department combines my aspiration to help others with my love for science and linguistics. Furthermore, I appreciate the layout of the program because directly after each unit, there is a clinical placement related to that area of study which will reinforce classroom lectures with real life experience. The countless research opportunities, capstone portfolio, and teaching clinics make this program one of the best.

Current Research Experience:
Completing my Bachelor of Science in Honours Biochemistry at McMaster University, I started participating in research during my second year of my undergraduate career. For my thesis, I did experiments to study various properties of E. coli and Magnetotactic bacteria. During the summers, I have been a research assistant for a professor studying the ultrastructure of bone. I am very passionate about research, and I am hoping to volunteer with a faculty member in one of the several speech and swallowing labs.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals:
Upon completing this program, I hope to become a practicing Speech Language Pathologist and work with adults in rehabilitation facilities or with acute care patients in A hospital. I am also considering completing my PhD because I love research and the department is very helpful for making the transition from a clinical master’s program to a PhD.
