Eleftherios P. Diamandis is Professor and Head, Division of Clinical Biochemistry, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and Biochemist-in-Chief, University Health Network.  Professor Diamandis received his undergraduate, graduate and medical education at the University of Athens, Greece and he is a diplomate in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Toronto.  He was appointed to the University of Toronto in 1986.  His current research interests include application of proteomic and genomic technologies for identification of novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring of patients with various malignancies such as pancreatic, ovarian, breast, colon and prostate cancers, as well as for devising new therapeutic strategies for cancer and other diseases.  He has already received a number of research and teaching awards, including Membership to the Royal Society of Canada and The Canadian Academy for Health Research; he is also a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens, and an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  Dr. Diamandis has graduated approximately 50 students (25 MSc and 25 PhDs), and runs a very active research laboratory of approximately 25 members.
