Albert Cheng

Hello there! I'm Albert, a UofT student who just wrapped up his third year of undergrad, doing a specialist in Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology and a major in Biochemistry. When I'm not in lecture or lab, it's a safe bet that I am occupied by a personal project to identify the best bubble tea in the downtown core. However, this study suffers from a constantly lacking sample size that can only be amended by the imbibing of test drinks every other day -- for the sake of more statistical power, of course.

Since the summer after first year, I've been fortunate to work under the tutelage of Dr. Dave Cescon. It has been an amazing learning experience where I first began to develop an understanding of biocomputational approaches to cancer discovery and how they can be used to identify mechanisms of drug resistance. My experiences in that lab and in pathobiology courses I took cemented my interest in translational medicine and led me to appreciate the immense complexity and heterogeneity in the study of cancer.

I am grateful to the Amgen Scholars for allowing me to continue in his lab this summer, where I look forward to experimentally validating candidate genetic drivers of resistance identified over the course of a research thesis course this year.
