Pre-MSc/PhD Education:  BSc in Honours Kinesiology, University of Waterloo

Recent Research Experience
As part of an in-class research project, I worked with a small group of students to conduct a literature review of common cardiac medication taken by patients in a hospital setting and its implications on inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy assessments and treatments. I also recently conducted and presented an informal literature review of common total hip arthroplasty approaches (THAs) and its implications on inpatient physiotherapy assessments and treatments.

Current Research
The research projects for the MScPT program have not yet been determined, but I am excited to expand and explore new topics surrounding orthopaedic/MSK  rehabilitation.

Why Faculty of Medicine?
The Faculty of Medicine allows me to explore my profession through multiple avenues of learning; multiple labs, small group sessions and clinical placements serve to apply theoretical concepts into a clinical setting with realistic environments. In addition, I am able to explore and understand the importance of interprofessional collaboration to provide the most effective, patient-centred care possible. At the end of the day, I chose the Faculty of Medicine because I am passionate about helping others succeed – whether it be my patients, my fellow PTs, or my colleagues.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals
The best part of the physical therapy profession lies in its versatility – from neurological to musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory conditions, I am able to provide a meaningful and lasting impact to a variety of patients and their families. Coming out of the MScPT program, I hope to enter practice immediately as a physiotherapist. At this time, however, I am unsure of what patient population I would like to work with. Given enough time and experience within the medical industry, I hope to create and run my own interprofessional medical clinic.
