Isidora Rovic, Physiology

Isodora RovicFull Name: Isidora Rovic
Country of origin: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
Pre-MSc/PhD Education: University of Toronto, Biochemistry and Human Biology
Recent Research Experience: I am currently completing a master’s project in the field of reproductive physiology, specifically pregnancy and maternal health.

Current Research: My project focuses on the role of lipid signaling in the maintenance of successful pregnancy and embryo development. The long-term goal of my research is to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying pregnancy disorders such as pre-eclampsia and intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR), and find means of alleviating these disorders.

Why Faculty of Medicine: My undergraduate degree was comprised of courses that ranged from micro-level cellular biochemistry to a much broader look at the physiological workings of the human body. This propelled me to pursue a research-based master’s at the Faculty of Medicine, where I could further my education in physiology by applying the laboratory skills I gained in my undergrad. The Faculty of Medicine is equipped with great staff and amazing professors; as well as challenging and informative courses in a variety of specialties.

Future education plan and/or career goals: I plan to pursue a career in medicine after my MSc. Specifically, I would like to specialize in a field in women’s health and reproduction.
